The church dedicated to the Prophet Elias is located on the top of a hill above the slopes descending gently downward to the Jordan Valley. A romantic scenery where it is so pleasant to roam, especially in the spring season... in the surroundings of the site, we can see the ruins of unescavated village as well as a little mosque. This place is called Listib and could be, following the tradition, the birth place of the Prophet Elias.
The Byzantine church of Mar Elias is a quite place, propitious to meditation. The building includes a tree where locals come for hanging votive ribbons. The basement of the church is built over a cave that contains monks' burials. Beautiful mosaic floors decorate the pavement of the church, but the nowaday visitor can see only some segment of them, as they are covered for protection purpuse. Some of the below photos have been pictured several years ago, when it was still possible to see them.
