The indigo cultivation in Jordan Valley dates back to the prosperous centuries of the Islamic periods and lasts till the end of 19th century. With the support of UNESCO, local women decided to relaunch this lost ancestral activity and travelled till India to bring back indigo seeds. Even if the project has developed at a small scale, this activity greatly empowered several women in the village of Safi. You can visit the workshop and discover, beside the indigo, different kind of natural dyes. You will be offered to proceed by yourself to the dying of a scarf or a T-shirt.
This stop will also be a unique opportunity to get in touch with the local women and enjoy their dynamism and great temper... you can couple this experience with a hike in the Wadi Hassa, the visit of the Safi ancient sugar factory, a stop at the Museum of the Lowest Place On Earth, with an eventual walk till the monastery of the Lot Cave...
