Al Numeira Environmental Association

Al Numeira Environmental Association was created by a group of people from the community, concerned by the pollution degrading their environment and by the distancing of their community from their ancestral lands and traditions. Ghor Al Mazara is one of the villages of the fertile South Dead Sea that experimented the introduction of an intensive agriculture and water restrictions, with as a result the emergence of environmental and social disbalances.

Al Numeira Environmental Association searches and promote solutions for addressing the challenges and the constraints induced by the water rarefaction through the use of greywater management, rain-water harvesting and permaculture. It is strongly involved in the awareness raising and the education of the citizens about the ways to implement these principles in their individual practices in order to create a more sustainable lifestyle for themselves and their children. It also reminds traditional farming techniques in line with ancestral permacultural practices that used to preserve as well natural resources as a wide panel of plants species. Those practices used to insure to the community sufficiency and social equity.  The association works to reinforce the ties between the relocated farmer and their lands and to promote the value of the local products through by involving tourism.

For the visitors, NEA proposes cycling tours for exploring the farming lands, where you will see a large variety of crops. You will also have a unique occasion to see the areas affected by the Dead Sea level's drop. The progressive desalinisation produced by the withdraw of the Dead Sea generates the collapse of the cultivated fields in huge holes. You will stop at farmers for a tea or a lunch.

The tour will also bring you in the strange Dead Sea marls, where you will visit the ruins of an ancient monastery. The team can also take you in the spectacular wadies, in a memorable stroll during which you will take part to the nature cleansing efforts of the association. You may also wish to spend an overnight in the area, and for that, Orabi's farm will be the perfect place for staying in an authentic farm.
